Well it's finally happened. MMA (Melbourne Music Academy) has closed till they find a new place at least. For those who don't know the joint is getting ripped down and getting built on top of with who knows what. Stupid council!!!
Anyway it's like an end of an era for me. MMA was the best chill out spot ever where everyone knows your name just like the old Cheers show ahah. The vibe was just there and in such a prime central location. It just screamed what we HipHop influenced dancers are about.
I'd have to say I'm very grateful to MMA not only for the venue but for all the people I've gotten to meet whilst training, jamming, teaching and even just chilling there. I'll miss sitting behind the reception just for the hell of it with Ruby and just wandering around wherever I want in general. Lets hope the next place they get is as good as this one in that it's huge, central and has the same vibe and hopefully same people coming back once it re-opens who knows where.
Lastly, I was fortunate enough to sub Advanced Hip Hop class the last Tuesday that MMA was open for Marty (Also in The Collektive). So here is some footage. Enjoy!
*Kind of small might want to click it and watch it on youtube*

Night Shoot
It's late but I can't sleep so I thought I'd finally get around to uploading my photos from the weekend. Last Friday to be exact till around 3-4am Saturday morning. Me and the guys (ie David and Ben) ended up going to a shipping port area. Not exactly sure where. I wasn't really paying attention since I was spacing out but I think it was Kensington area. Then we were going to go shoot some abandoned warehouses but ended up at a skate park instead. Our final destination was the good old Bolte bridge. Was some pretty good times, I havn't seen those cats in forever.
For some more in depth details on what went down at the dock read Daves blog ahah. Also check out his photos from the night at http://shiftyshutters.blogspot.com/
Anyway here are a few of the shots that I liked. It was my first night shoot but I think I started to get a hang of it fairly quickly.
The Port
The Park
The Rail
The Path
I kinda like this one, had to edit it a bit to get a little more detail. But managed to get the shot so that Daves head was in front of a light hence the glowing ahah
The Lone Photographer
This last photo. I was honestly just trying to get a decent shot testing out longer exposure and a random motor bike came from the distance and turned right in front of me at that point the shutter closed and tada!!! Everytime I look at this photo I still think those buildings are fake even though I've done minimal editing aside from removing some water that was on the lens.

Montanasa
Well we all know Montanasa has come and gone. It's been 2-3 weeks now but I promised people I'd update my photos till I'm all caught up and up to speed. If you didn't know (ie you're not a dancer as most of my friends are ahah)Montanasa was a Dance competition. The finals of Victorian Hip Hop Challenge VHC in fact. My crew "The Collektive" was lucky enough to make top 2 at VHC, qualifying to battle it out at Montanasa.
Here is footage of our 1st place show if you're interested:
Anyway here are a couple of shots I liked from the week leading upto and on the day. Was just capturing the memories really but I found these interesting.
Melbourne Music Academy
My Crew
The Dressing Room
...and two kinda funny ones feat Jose
The KFC

DSLRFTW
Got my DSLR a couple of weeks ago now and I love it! So I thought I'd start a photoblog or maybe just a blog in general and see how I go.
Anyway I ended up getting a Canon EOS 450D. The single lens kit that comes with an EFS 18-55 1:3.5-5.6 IS lens for those interested. I'd have to say straight up that it's money well spent. Over the last couple of weeks I've pretty much been taking it everywhere with me and needless to say I've gotten some pretty interesting shots.
I'm still sifting through them all so just wait for them in the coming days. But for now heres are a couple of shots from my first day shooting. I was a bit clueless and still getting used to the camera but yeah. Mainly experimental. I'm just using my personalised collektive watermark for now till I get around to making my own. Peace!!!

and others in the car. Just for a little taste of whats to come.
